April is one of the best shoulder-season months to visit Vietnam. The north is warm and comfortable for city walks and mountain hikes, central Vietnam is sunny and hot for heritage sites while the south is still mostly dry with occasional late-month showers.
North Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong, Ninh Binh, Sapa): ~24–32°C, lower rainfall than summer, great visibility.
Central Vietnam (Hue, Hoi An, Phong Nha): ~28–35°C, strong sunshine, hottest at month-end.
South Vietnam (HCMC, Mekong, Phu Quoc): ~26–38°C, humid, first short showers may appear late April.
Late April can be busier and more expensive due to Vietnam’s major public holidays, especially Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1). If you travel during this period, book flights and hotels early, and expect more domestic crowds in beach destinations.
UV levels are often high in April, so bring sunscreen (SPF 50), sunglasses, and a hat, especially in central and southern Vietnam.

North Vietnam is geographically, and culturally opulent, as it features a large number of bays, seas, rivers and mountains in addition to having beautiful craft villages, temples and pagodas. Then, the temperature will start to go up in April and continue to the end of the month, as this northern part of VietNam begins to enter the hot and humid summer. The weather is nice with, the temperatures are 24-32°C which means there is little risk of rain.
Our travelers, Julia and Franck, doing a nice hike in Sapa during his trip to Vietnam in April 2022
Therefore, you can expect many sunny days in the north, which is perfect for hiking and exploring the mountainous regions. This also makes walking through the ancient streets, temples and pagodas of Hanoi, as well as taking a cruise through Halong Bay, ideal options for a trip to the north this April.
Phong Nha National Park, Hue Former Imperial Capital, Hoi An Ancient Town,...
Being a narrow strip of land located between the north and the south, the center is the crossing point for all routes through Vietnam. In April, Central Vietnam is subject to clear skies and strong sunshine, with a fairly high temperature. The average temperature is around 28°C and can reach 35°C at the end of the month. Heritage under the sun allows for interesting discoveries about history, culture and landscapes.

Hanoi
Hanoi- the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, located in the heart of the north, on the right bank of the Red River, is a must-see on any trip to Vietnam. It has always been the first point of arrival for almost all travelers. It is a capital of contrasts for travelers: traditional (old neighborhoods, old houses, shops, authentic traffic) and modern: buildings, large roads, etc.
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
In April, Hanoi enjoys perfectly pleasant weather, with cooler evenings. Bring a jacket or light clothing to stroll around Sword Lake and the 36-street old guild district (Hanoi's cultural and historical center). Along the lake, stop at the water puppet theater for a traditional Vietnamese show, then stop at a café to sample Hanoi's specialty, egg coffee.
Further afield, you will visit the Imperial City of Thang Long (ruins dating back to 1010), the Temple of Literature, the Museum of Ethnography, etc. Visiting the Vietnamese capital also means discovering excellent street food with dishes such as Phở (noodle soup), Bún Chả (grilled pork with noodles) and Nem (spring rolls).
Hue
What's so special about visiting Hue in April? It marks the beginning of the dry season in the former capital. During this month there are sunny days, cool to mild temperatures and less precipitation.
Average temperatures usually range between 22-27°C. In particular, very interesting artistic programs are also organized here within the framework of the Hue Festival.
During the Hue Festival, held annually in April, ancient royal rituals are performed.
Start exploring Hue with a boat trip along the Perfume River to see mausoleums, temples, and pagodas. Hue is home to many cultural and historical relics related to feudal dynasties: citadels, palaces, tombs and temples.
Hoi An
Located not far from Hue (150 km south), Hoi An is considered the most charming city in the country. Arriving in Hoi An in April, you can explore without fear of interruptions from rain or storms. It can be very hot during the day and the temperature drops a bit at night.
Hoi An, the city of lanterns
Hoi An is one of the places most visited by our guests for its old town full of history. After your walk, take a cooking class or relax on An Bang Beach.
An Bang Beach, about 7 km southeast of Hoi An Ancient Town
2.2 Best for Nature & Landscapes (Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Northern Mountains)
Halong Bay
Halong Bay, one of the 7 wonders of the world, remains the most visited place in Vietnam, especially in April.
You can sail and kayak in Halong Bay in April
This is also a good time for kayaking. The sea is warm, around 30°C, and the water stays calm, which makes it easy to explore small caves or quiet corners of the bay’s 2,000 islets. Swimming and beach stops are comfortable, and there’s usually plenty of sunshine.
You can also climb up to one of the viewpoints for a wide view over the islands. And in the evening, it’s worth finding a quiet spot to watch the sunset. It’s simple, peaceful, and one of the moments that makes Halong Bay so memorable.
Ninh Binh
Ninh Binh, nicknamed the Halong Bay on Land, is a must-visit destination in April.
Hop on a small boat and drift through quiet rivers, golden rice paddies, and limestone cliffs. The green from the mountains mixes with soft yellow fields, and you’ll pass by caves that feel hidden from the rest of the world. Later in the day, take a bike and ride through the nearby villages. You’ll catch a glimpse of daily countryside life during the rice harvest season.
Don't forget Cuc Phuong National Park, especially beautiful in April with its butterfly season.
Northern Mountains (Sapa, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Ba Be)
The northern mountains offer mild temperatures (20-25°C), ideal for trekking.
A particularly photogenic spectacle awaits you in April

2.3 Best for Beaches (Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Con Dao)
Nha Trang
Nha Trang is a coastal destination known for its white sand beaches, clear waters, and year-round sunny weather.
April brings warm, easy days and peaceful time by the sea. You can start your morning at the Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute, built by the French in 1922, and get a closer look at marine life from Vietnam and other parts of the world.
Monkey in Nha Trang
Phu Quoc
Should you spend your vacation in Phu Quoc in April? This paradise island enjoys dry weather and calm seas. Besides the pleasant weather, April shows off Phu Quoc at its best, with clear blue waters and fresh green landscapes. It’s also a good time for your budget, as flights and hotels are usually cheaper than in peak season.

2.4 Best for Food & Urban Life (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta)
Ho Chi Minh City
As the southern capital and largest city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is a must-see in April. April in Ho Chi Minh City signals the shift from the dry season to the rainy season, bringing a noticeable change in weather. Rainfall increases compared to previous months, and short tropical showers become more frequent, especially in the late afternoon or evening. Even with more rain, the city remains energetic. Locals and visitors adjust easily, and while April isn’t as dry as the previous months, the blend of sunshine and sudden showers gives Saigon a distinctive atmosphere for exploring.

Mekong Delta
The Mekong Delta is vibrant in April, ideal for boat trips, cycling and floating markets.
Would you like to cycle in a peaceful countryside, in the shade of the refreshing coconut palms, like our travellers?
3. Top festivals in April
Carnaval in Halong
The Hạ Long Carnaval is one of the most distinctive, lively and impressive street festivals that Quảng Ninh province has been maintaining and developing for many years.
Along with the Carnaval street festival, the city of Hạ Long also organizes a series of unique events and festivals, including the opening of the pedestrian street and Bãi Cháy food market, various sports competitions, the Beer and Squid Cake Festival, Lion Dance and Dragon Dance Festival, Zumba Club Festival, and Modern Dance Group Festival. You can enrich your Hạ Long trip by attending these exciting events.

Giong Festival in Hanoi
If you enjoy experiencing traditional festivals in Hanoi, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year is the Hội Gióng Festival. This traditional festival holds significant educational meaning, fostering patriotism and celebrating the martial arts heritage of the nation.
It is also an opportunity for people from all over to pay their respects to Thánh Gióng, one of the four immortal deities of Vietnamese belief.

Chol Chnam Chmay Festival – An Giang
The traditional Chôl Chnăm Thmây New Year festival, meaning “Entering the New Year,” also known as “New Year’s Celebration” or “Age-Welcoming Ceremony,” is the most important holiday of the year for the Khmer people in Vietnam’s southern Mekong Delta region. This traditional festival usually lasts three days according to the Chétt (Khmer) calendar, from April 13 to April 15 on the Gregorian calendar, and is celebrated in areas with a significant Khmer population, most notably in An Giang province.

The New Year celebrations in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand and Southern Vietnam occur from April 13 to April 16.
